A small group of teenagers in Burleson, Texas, came together for a DiscipleNow weekend in early 1990. Compelled to pray, they drove to three different schools that night. Not knowing exactly what to do, they went to the school flagpoles and prayed for their friends, schools, and leaders. A plan grew from this throughout Texas to plan simultaneous prayers around school flagpoles on the same date and time. Estimates are that 45,000 youth gathered that first year. In 1991 it is estimated that one million youth gathered around through the US. And now it is estimated that three million youth through out the world gather each year.
The movement is entirely student led. There is a strength and authenticity in that that we seldom name. It shows that these students are responding to God and inviting their friends into that relationship, that response.
This year, See You At the Pole is September 25th. We will be hosting a breakfast at 6:30 to feed anyone who wants to come and eat before heading to the flagpole. The theme is
#IFthen – If we pray,. seek, turn: Then God hears, forgives, heals.
This is another great vision of the youth leading by example.
